PORT CLINTON — The man whose body was found in an Ottawa County ditch died of a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

A statement identified the man as John Whittecar. His age and residence were not released.

The body was found Thursday night in a ditch by Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies who were dispatched to the 1700 block of North Rymers Road, west of Camp Perry. 

“It was confirmed through autopsy results that the victim, John Whittecar, was shot which resulted in his death,” according to the sheriff’s office statement.
