A 61-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on the Ohio Turnpike in Perrysburg Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
New York City resident Evgeny Zolotarev was driving a Ford Sprinter van westbound on the turnpike just before 1 a.m. when he drove off the right side shoulder and slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked in an emergency pull-off area, troopers said. The crash occurred around milepost 68.
Mr. Zolotarev was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, 49-year-old Anvar Almsov of Toledo, had pulled off the road with engine trouble. He was uninjured.
Troopers continued to investigate the crash Wednesday but said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
