A Toledo man was being questioned by police Saturday when he allegedly attacked a police officer, swinging a bag of beer cans and digging his fingers into her eye, authorities said.
Officers responding to a check the safety call at about 5 p.m. in the 1400 block of Prouty Avenue in South Toledo spotted Christopher Dashner, 34, walking nearby and tried to speak with him, a report said.
An affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court said Mr. Dashner then "swung a bag of beer cans at the officers, and he assaulted Officer [Emily] Humason when he dug his fingers into her right eye," cutting the officer's eyelid and breaking blood vessels. A police report state he tried to “gouge her eyes.”
Another officer on the scene deployed a taser, and additional police arrived and arrested Mr. Dashner, a report said.
The injured officer was treated and later released from Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center.
Mr. Dashner faces a charge of assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony.
