The Blade Northwest Ohio Championship Regional Spelling Bee, sponsored by Dave White Chevrolet and the Northwest Ohio Chevrolet Dealers, takes place Saturday at Owens Community College.
The event starts at 10 a.m. in Owens' Center for Fine and Performing Arts at 7270 Biniker Rd. in Perrysburg Township.
The event will feature 23 spellers who will compete for the title and opportunity to represent northwest Ohio at the Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer near Washington, organizers said in the announcement.
The competitors emerged from an original list representing 97 schools in Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Lucas, Paulding, Sandusky, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood counties.
The judges are Diana Bush, executive director of Read for Literacy, and Mike Pearson, an assistant managing editor at The Blade. Jason Kucsma, executive director/fiscal officer of Toledo Lucas County Library, is to serve as pronouncer.
