Toledo police arrest two in separate teen murders

Two people have been arrested in two teenagers’ separate murders this week, Toledo police announced Saturday morning.

Edward Griffin, Jr., 19, of the 3700 block of Hill Avenue, was arrested and charged for the murder of Mark Wortham, 17, who was shot in southwest Toledo on Friday afternoon and died about an hour later at the University of Toledo Medical Center at 4:40 p.m., according to the Toledo Police Department.

Police were first dispatched to the 4100 block of Amsterdam Road at about 3:30 p.m., a police report said. Police at the scene reported the victim was shot outside a home and then ran inside for cover before being taken to the hospital.

Mr. Griffin was booked into the Lucas County jail.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. The homicide is the 12th in Toledo this year. 

Toledo police also said they arrested Dimar Smith, 16, for the April 10 shooting death of Jaden Skaggs at Ravine Park Village off Poplar Street in East Toledo. He was booked into the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center.

Young Skaggs, 15, was treated at the scene and taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he later died of multiple gunshot wounds.
