A partially decomposed body was found around midday Wednesday in a wooded area off Parkside Boulevard just east of the University of Toledo’s Scott Park campus.
Toledo Police Lt. Dan Gerken said it was not known if the person was a victim of foul play.
The remains are of an adult male, said Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett, Lucas County coroner. A name will be released after family members are notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The discovery was called in about 12:05 p.m. by a person who told authorities of finding the body while walking through the woods, Lieutenant Gerken said.
“The person’s been there for a while” and it appeared animals had disturbed the remains, he said.
The body was found about 30 to 40 feet into the woods from the edge of a grassy area alongside Parkside south of Nebraska Avenue. A power line follows an old railroad right-of-way through the area, but Lieutenant Gerken did not say how close the body was to that pathway through the woods.
Lieutenant Gerken said that alongside the coroner’s efforts, police were researching recent missing-person reports to see if any might match the found body.
