A 14-year-old was hospitalized late Wednesday after accidentally shooting himself at a West Toledo residence, police said. 

Officers responded to ProMedica Toledo Hospital at 10:30 p.m. on a report of a person who had arrived with gunshot wounds, a police report said.

The teenager initially said someone shot at him outside his home in the 4100 block of Caroline Avenue, striking his hand and leg. But later he changed his story and told police he had accidentally shot himself with a firearm that he found, the report said. 

Police said the teen’s injuries were not life-threatening.
