Several rescued, 16 displaced in West Toledo apartment fire

Toledo firefighters rescued several people from a burning apartment complex in West Toledo on Saturday when two people were taken to a local hospital and 16 people were displaced from the residences.

Firefighters used ladders to bring the residents to safety at the Cedars apartments, 2705 W. Central Ave., Pvt. Sterling Rahe said at the scene.

Stairways at the apartments were full of smoke so residents could not exit by using the steps.

The call came in at about 6:09 p.m. The complex is west of Douglas Road.

The fire's cause remained under investigation Saturday evening. Smoke damage resulted from the fire. In all, eight apartments were affected, Private Rahe said. The American Red Cross was called to assist the 16 displaced residents.
