Husted appoints elections replacement

On his way out the door, Secretary of State Jon Husted appointed Fritz Schoen to fill the unexpired term of Bruce Saferin on the Lucas County Board of Elections.

Mr. Husted, who will be sworn in as lieutenant governor on Monday, authorized the replacement chosen by Lucas County Republicans. The secretary of state removed Dr. Saferin, the former chairman, suddenly last week, citing issues leading up to and during the November election.

Mr. Schoen will serve through March 2021 as one of two Republicans on the bipartisan, four-member board. The board will decide later on its next chairman.
