Tom Names, a Republican candidate for Lucas County commissioner, said he’s dropping out of that race to instead run for an at-large seat on Toledo City Council in November.
He’s running in the special election on Nov. 3 to replace former councilman Sandy Spang, who stepped down to work on economic development for the city.
Mr. Names, a retired engineer, ran for city council in 2019 in District 5, but was defeated by Democrat Sam Melden. He was unopposed in the April 28 primary for county commissioner.
