Incumbent Perrysburg City Council members Mark Weber and Barry VanHoozen won new four-year terms on Tuesday, while newcomer Kevin Fuller also appeared set to win a seat, unofficial Wood County results showed.
Mr. Weber won 23 percent of the vote, Mr. VanHoozen won 20 percent, and Mr. Fuller took 16 percent — appearing to narrowly edge out John Meier for the final open seat. The three will join the seven-member council that serves the city of 25,000.
Councilman Deborah Born will not return for a second term, garnering just 12 percent of the vote.
Mr. Weber, a 64-year-old retired IBEW Local 8 electrician, has lived in the city for 60 years. He was appointed to the council in 2019 to fill the term of State Rep. Haraz Ghanbari (R., Perrysburg). Then in January he was appointed to the council again, this time to fill the seat of Jim Matuszak, who became the Wood County recorder.
Mr. VanHoozen, 62, was first elected in 2013 and has lived in the city since 1981. The Republican is a longtime State Farm Insurance representative who previously served on the Perrysburg School Board.
Mr. Fuller is a 39-year-old union carpenter making his first run for office. The Republican is a trustee on the Local 351 executive board, where he is tasked with fraud prevention, budget work, and property management.
Others that ran unsuccessfully included Victor Senn, a Bowling Green State University employee, as well as Mr. Meier, a 63-year old family physician.
