A post-election state audit of the Nov. 5 general election showed a 99.99 percent accuracy rate, including 100 percent accuracy for the presidential ballot, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced Monday.
“Ohioans deserve to know that their elections are transparent, accessible, and accountable,” Mr. LaRose said in a statement. “As 2024 comes to a close, I am proud to announce yet another 99.9 percent audit accuracy rate and am grateful for the hard work and dedication of Ohio’s bipartisan election officials who make it happen.”
Before each election, county boards of elections are required to conduct a full battery of “logic and accuracy” tests on all voting equipment. Afterward, bipartisan teams from the Republican and Democratic parties from those elections boards compare the tabulated results with the hard-copy paper ballots to ensure fidelity between the two.
Mr. LaRose said Ohio’s requirement to audit results after every election is more stringent than other states and has been made law by the Ohio legislature after previously being done at his direction.
Among 23 elections statewide for which automatic recounts were triggered, three involved local issues that ended in ties, three contests determined by single votes, and three others determined by three-vote differences.
“With important local races on the horizon in 2025, it is important to remember that every vote counts,” Mr. LaRose said. “Easy to vote and hard to cheat, that is our continued promise to every Ohioan.”
