The Lucas County Board of Elections will hear arguments in April regarding its decision to place a recall vote on the city of Maumee’s primary ballot.
The board announced Wednesday it would hold an April 1 protest hearing at 11 a.m. in response to the board’s unanimous decision to certify petitions that put a recall vote for Maumee’s mayor and six city councilmen on the city’s Sept. 9 primary ballot.
Mayor James MacDonald and Councilmen Gabriel Barrow, Jonathan Fiscus, Joshua Harris, Ted Kurt, Scott Noonan, and Margo Puffenberger are at risk of being recalled. The only councilman who is not being recalled is Philip Leinbach.
Mr. MacDonald and Mr. Kurt submitted protests to the board of elections Monday, joining a protest filed Friday by two Maumee residents, Glenn Rambo and Benjamin Heywood.
Any additional briefs or evidence from the recall supporters must be submitted to the Lucas County Board of Elections by 4 p.m. March 21. Recall opponents have until March 28 by 4 p.m. to submit any additional briefs or evidence.
After those dates and times, no additional evidence will be considered by the board, officials said.
The protest hearing will be open to the public and will be held at the board of elections at 3737 West Sylvania Ave.
