BOWLING GREEN — Construction of more than eight miles of new water main to serve eastern Henry County is scheduled to start in the spring following the award of a construction contract, the Northwestern Water & Sewer District announced Thursday.
Hillabrand & Sons Construction of Woodville, Ohio, is the recipient of the $4.2 million contract the utilities district’s board of trustees approved to build the pipeline from a network connection near Weston, Ohio, west to McClure, then north along State Rt. 65 and under the Maumee River and west to the village of Liberty Center.
The project also will include relocating a pump station outside Liberty Center, and involves changing the water provider for that area from the city of Napoleon to the city of Bowling Green — although both draw their raw water from the Maumee.
The water main is expected to take about a year to build.
“This project will provide a long-term and affordable water supply for McClure, Liberty Center, and surrounding areas as well as a redundant source of emergency drinking water for Henry County,” Tom Stalter, the utility’s district engineer, said in a prepared statement.
