BOWLING GREEN — In support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ongoing We’re for Water campaign, the Northwestern Water and Sewer District is promoting an effort to find and fix residential leaks in Northwest Ohio.
Fix a Leak Week starts Monday and runs through Sunday. It encourages Americans to help put a stop to the nearly 1 trillion gallons of water wasted from household leaks each year, official said.
“Leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water in an average home every year — the amount of water it takes to wash 300 loads of laundry,” said Theresa Pollick, public information officer at the sewer district.
To help customers search for leaks, the district is giving away leak detection kits that include dye testing strips for toilets, a toilet flapper, a toilet tank bank, and a faucet drip gauge.
Leak kits are available during Fix a Leak Week at the district’s main office at 12560 Middleton Pike, weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
