Bridge replacement to require Reynolds Road detour

Bridge replacement to require Reynolds Road detour

Replacement of a small bridge on Reynolds Road will require a big detour starting Monday.

Preparations to replace the bridge over Heldman Ditch between South and Hill avenues have been under way for several weeks, requiring varying lane closings.

The full closing is scheduled to start Monday morning, with a posted detour using Airport Highway, I-475, and Dorr Street. I would expect most trucks and other commercial vehicles to bypass this portion of U.S. 20 using the freeway anyway, but you never know. Parallel Holland-Sylvania Road will surely get a lot of detouring passenger-vehicle traffic between Hill and Angola Road.

The city’s notice said Reynolds will be closed for 10 days. Kelsie Hoagland, an Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman, said in July that 10 days was what contractor Miller Brothers Construction expected to need, but the $1.6 million project’s contract allows 15 days to get Reynolds reopened, so it could stay closed into the first week of October.

Parts of Collingwood Boulevard and Erie Street will be closed during the day Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.

While the bridge is wider than it is long, Heldman passes under Reynolds on a diagonal, and state officials said during the project’s run-up that its design made it a poor candidate for partial-width replacement, which otherwise might have avoided a detour.

In central Wood County, a new drainage project starts Monday that will close westbound State Rt. 105 between Carter and Dunbridge roads. This will block a primary route from westbound U.S. 6 into Bowling Green using Bowling Green Road and Route 105.

Instead, Route 105’s westbound detour will take Bowling Green Road south to U.S. 6, then go west on Route 6 to northbound I-75. Westbound Route 105 will be closed for about 45 days.

Route 105’s eastbound lane will remain open.

Waterline work, meanwhile, will close State Rt. 582 just east of State Rt. 64, southeast of Haskins, for four weeks, also starting Monday. That detour will send traffic down to West Newton Road via either State Rt. 25 or Route 64.

I-75 (Ohio): Reduced to two lanes northbound between Wales Road in Northwood and Dorr Street in Toledo and southbound from Dorr to Glenwood Road in Rossford for reconstruction and widening. Shifting traffic patterns are occurring north of South Avenue during final paving in that area. The northbound I-75 exit and entrance at Miami Street are closed until late October, with detours posted to South Avenue (for the exit) and Wales Road (for the entrance). Additional closings are possible at night and on weekends. In Hancock County, drainage work closes the southbound right lane between Rocky Ford Creek and State Rt. 613.

A city official said the fresh pavement recently laid down on a Jackson Street lane routinely used for parking city vehicles was actually a pedestrian-safety measure. This drone view is from Aug. 31.

Ramp, lane closings to disrupt I-275 and I-75 in Michigan

I-75 (Mich.): Reduced to one lane each way until 6 a.m. Tuesday between I-275 and Rockwood for pavement patching. Long delays are likely during Monday’s rush hours. The left lane is closed both ways between Exit 5 (Erie Road) and Exit 11 (LaPlaisance Road) for pavement and shoulder repair, crossover construction, and other preparations for an upcoming reconstruction project. Lane and ramp closings also near the Newport interchange just north of I-275 for bridge replacement and other work.

I-280: Variable lane closings possible for pavement repairs between State Rt. 2 (Navarre) and Walbridge.

I-475/U.S. 23, Perrysburg-Holland Road: Traffic shift on the southbound side between State Rt. 2 (Airport) and U.S. 24 for widening and interchange construction at U.S. 20A.

I-475/U.S. 23: Variable nighttime (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane and ramp closings on I-475 between Corey Road and Central Avenue and on U.S. 23 between I-475 and the Michigan border for pavement repairs through September.

Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90): Reconstruction in western Williams County reduces eastbound traffic to one lane for five miles east of the Westgate tolls; two westbound lanes are maintained. Lanes closed between the Stony Ridge (I-280) and Elmore interchanges for resurfacing. Lane shifts or closings are also possible near the new Swanton toll plaza.

U.S. 23 (Mich.): Nighttime lane closings north of Dundee for bridge work at Milwaukee Road.

U.S. 24: Lane closings in Paulding and Defiance counties for slope repair and pavement patching. The westbound entrance ramp at Baltimore Street will be closed this week; enter at State Rts. 15/18 instead or continue west on Old U.S. 24 to southbound U.S. 127.

U.S. 224: Detours related to roundabout construction at State Rt. 587 in New Riegel, Seneca County, are scheduled to end Monday. Use U.S. 23 and State Rt. 18 instead until reopening.

State Rt. 2: Lanes closed in Oregon (Navarre Avenue) at Coy Road, which also is closed on both sides of the intersection, for gas main replacement through September.

State Rt. 25 (Anthony Wayne Trail): Reduced to one lane each way between Glendale and Detroit avenues for reconstruction.

State Rt. 25: Closed to through traffic between U.S. 6 and Cygnet Road for reconstruction. The specific piece of highway closed between those junctions varies as work progresses. Use I-75 and U.S. 6 instead.

State Rt. 65: Closed between Roachton and Hull Prairie roads in Perrysburg and Perrysburg Township until mid-November for replacement of a pump station. Detour via Roachton and Hull Prairie.

State Rt. 184 (Alexis): Lane closings at Benore/Enterprise for bridge replacement through November. Enterprise is closed at Alexis.

State Rt. 235: Closed just south of State Rt. 281 in Wood County for two bridge replacements through September. Detour via State Rts. 281, 65, and 18.

State Rt. 582: Closed for waterline work just east of State Rt. 64 near Haskins until mid-October. Detour via State Rt. 25, West Newton Road, and Route 64.
