New trail map highlights Ohio Underground Railroad stops

History buffs who wish to trace key Ohio Underground Railroad sites — including one in Sylvania and another in Sandusky — now have a tool to help travel them all.

Ohio Department of Development and TourismOhio released a trail map on its Ohio.org website. It provides a list and map of 15 sites highlighting Ohio’s legacy and involvement with the historic network, and the people who assisted others to freedom from slavery, the department announced.

Stops include the Lathrop House in Sylvania, where the Lathrop family sheltered escaped slaves and the Follett House Museum in Sandusky, the former home of Oran and Eliza Follet. They also sheltered African-Americans fleeing to Canada.

The new trail list and map were released as part of House Bill 340, signed in June, 2022, designating September as International Underground Railroad Month.

Additional relevant sites and places of interest also can be found on Ohio.org/UGRRTrail, as well as download a map highlighting each location.
