Mercy Health, Cigna Healthcare reach agreement to keep patients in-network

Medical services provider Mercy Health and insurer Cigna Healthcare have reached an agreement about reimbursement rates that will maintain in-network access for Mercy patients.

The agreement averts the prospect that individuals covered by Cigna Healthcare would be considered out-of-network by the insurer and have to pay more to cover the balance of their Mercy Health medical bills.

Details of the agreement have not been made public, but in its announcement of the agreement, Mercy Health stated that it has reached “a new, multi-year commercial insurance agreement with Cigna that keeps all Mercy Health physician practices, acute care hospitals, urgent care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, and additional care sites in-network.”

In its announcement, Mercy Health acknowledged that “the possibility of Mercy Health being out-of-network with Cigna has been difficult, and we want to express heartfelt gratitude to our patients for their grace and support as we diligently worked through these negotiations.”
