The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo’s Jewish Community Relations Council is hosting two interactive mock seders in April for Toledo’s non-Jewish community to learn about the ritual feast that marks the beginning of Passover.
Jews will celebrate Passover this year beginning on April 22. The eight-day festival commemorates the Israelites’ exodus from slavery in Egypt and celebrates the theme of freedom.
On April 7, a traditional Passover Seder will teach about the holiday and Judaism. Participants will have their own traditional seder plate with symbolic foods eaten on Passover. The event is in partnership with Lourdes University’s Lifelong Learning Program and will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania.
On April 21, a Rainbow Equality Seder will be hosted from 2 to 4 p.m. at Handmade Toledo, 1717 Adams St., Toledo, in partnership with Equality Toledo. This seder will follow the customs of a traditional seder with a focus on the collective liberation of LGBTQ people, Jews, and others who have faced oppression. The event will celebrate freedoms that have been achieved while exploring those yet to be achieved.
Both events are free to attend and open to all faiths and identities. Register for the traditional seder by April 1 at bit.ly/4cinPMO. Register for the equality seder by April 15 at bit.ly/3IMMLyv.
