Ohio Highway Patrol trooper killed in Wyandot County

CAREY, Ohio - Two Ohio Highway Patrol troopers were injured - one fatally - when their cruiser crashed as they responded to a mutual assistance call in Wyandot County. The crash occurred about 6:20 p.m. southwest of here.

Authorities identified the dead trooper as Andrew Baldridge, 25, a graduate of Carey High School who graduated from the patrol's academy in December. He was a trainee assigned to Trooper Mark McLaughlin, 33, a six-year member of the patrol.

Trooper McLaughlin was taken by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Cente, where a patrol spokesman said he was in fair condition.

The troopers were traveling southbound on Ridge Twp. Road 95, with Trooper Baldridge at the wheel.

The cruiser had just passed State Rt. 103 when the vehicle went of the right side of the road and into a shallow ditch. As Trooper Baldridge tried to adjust and bring the cruiser out of the ditch, the car rolled over trapping both men.
