Editorial: Noise endless about a stolen election that wasn’t

All the noise about election fraud is just that — noise. A noise that won’t seem to go away despite the massive evidence to the contrary.

The reality in Ohio, which reflects national numbers, is that the numbers of potential fraud cases in the 2020 elections was small —and they were caught.

Secretary of State Frank LaRose reported the numbers he found and turned over cases to the appropriate authorities.

Mr. LaRose found 62 cases of possible fraud. About half included people who are noncitizens who registered to vote.

The others were individuals who may have illegally voted on other grounds. Many of these potential cases will actually not move forward after further checks, according to the League of Women Voters of Ohio.

The small number of cases out of 5.9 million votes in November, 2020, makes clear that this state’s elections are secure, Mr. LaRose told the Statehouse News Bureau.

Mr. LaRose, like elections officials across the country, did his job. The secretary of state and his staff provided a clean election and reported fraud as required.

Yet in Ohio and across the country, elections officials at every level, even poll workers who’ve worked at the same precincts for years, face allegations and general nastiness. They’re accused of being part of some gigantic conspiracy to falsify election results. That view consists of paranoia and ignorance of the way elections work and the many safeguards in U.S elections to prevent fraud.

In the absence of evidence of malfeasance we should trust elections officials and let them do their jobs. They have provided us with clean elections for years.

The idea that they’re suddenly ignoring fraud is far-fetched at best — preposterous might be the better word.

Discrepancies in unofficial reported results don’t mean fraud has occurred. They are almost always corrected by the time of the official count.

Each state that’s had a recount by folks aiming to reverse the results have reached the same conclusion — there was no mass fraud. It’s time to drop this subject. The willfully ignorant may continue to make noise — who knows how long?

Don’t waste your time and energy on the noise.

It’s much more important to be a good citizen, support candidates of your choice, and vote.
