The Toledo School for the Arts offers an educational program that gives children with interest in the arts a place to learn and hone the skills they’re developing. The public school puts them in a position to go on with careers as artists and in the arts while providing an all–around education. Toledo School for the Arts is a gem which shows the great things a charter school can accomplish. It’s had time to prove its worth. The school opened in 1999.
Renovations and expansion of the school can open doors for more students with an interest in the arts. The school may be able to accommodate additional students and cut down on the 200 children on the waiting list. Growing the school helps out the Adams Street corridor.
The arts are not the only path to success and fulfillment in life. It is a path that needs recognition and effort at a time when many public schools have been forced to cut arts and music programs because of budget concerns.
The school is open to any Ohio resident. It’s sponsored by Bowling Green State University. There is no tuition.
Here’s what the school does for Toledo: It has forged partnerships with most of the arts community in the city and beyond. It spreads the good news about Toledo statewide and nationally.
Art and artists impact their communities in positive ways. And yes, an active arts community, museums, and performances produce economic benefits to cities and towns.
Some of the 700 kids at Toledo School for the Arts won’t stay in town. Yet they have connections here. They’ll bring up their education by chatting with friends. Their presence here is a boon for Toledo.
Many roads to a happy and productive future exist for students.
It’s important that a school focused on those kids interested in the arts can grow right here in Toledo.
