Toledo’s claim is correct: It is the largest city without a good connection to Columbus.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has said it will take too much money to fix it the right way so they will do what they can afford. This makes sense.

Lima would be the next city to say they do not have a good connection to Columbus.

To the editor: Time to take action on U.S. Route 23

Since repairing U.S. 23 is too expensive, is fixing the connection to U.S. 30 and I-75 an option?

There is still much manufacturing in northwest Ohio and northern Indiana, it just has fewer residents and poor connections to Columbus.

When will U.S. 23 on Columbus’ southside be upgraded before Asheville-South Bloomfield turns into Delaware and it gets too expensive to fix?

Early design plans shown for potential rehabs of Maumee River islands

Islands a waste

I was unable to attend the hearing at Walbridge Park concerning the restoration/repurposing of the islands out front of the park in the Maumee River.

I’m not completely sure of the exact figure, but the project is to be in the millions of dollars.

I grew up boating on the Maumee. The islands have lost to my estimation 60 percent of mass from what it was in the 1960s, 1970s, and on from there. Fluctuating water levels and ice have taken the toll, and it will continue.

What makes it a priority to dump millions of dollars in the river for an “ecological experiment”? My words.

There are many places in our community that need help.

There are many people in the community who need services, including mental health services, help for the homeless situation and drug addiction, and the influx of migrants.

This project is a blatant waste of funds that will not produce measurable results.

The river is an asset, and we are lucky to have it. But the fact is it drains farmland from its start to its finish.

Mud and fertilizer are what comes down the river.

The small amount that the islands may filter is a waste of money.

Trump’s good times

I’m dumbfounded by two letters in Sundays Readers Forum; both criticizing former President Donald Trump. Do these two readers remember when we had a secure border, lower gas prices, no Russian invasion, no food supply-chain issues, everyone wanting to work, lower taxes, and lower food prices, just to mention a few? Apparently not.

So let me remind them that all were happening under President Trump; not President Biden. He gathers support by giving things away free of charge.

Not exactly a plan to better the economy.

President Trump may not have been the smoothest talker, but at least I felt safe and could afford the bare necessities of daily life.

Military sham a shame

I am an Ohio native and just read about J.R. Majewski’s despicable misrepresentation of his military service.

I served two tours in Afghanistan and am a Bronze Star Medal recipient. It’s pretty easy to prove service in Afghanistan through an Afghanistan Campaign Medal or an individual medal. There’s always a certificate and almost always photos of the presentation.

Serving in Qatar is nothing to downplay. Mr. Majewski deployed, which is more than 90 percent of Americans have done for this country. But serving in Qatar, where there are pools, nice barracks, and off-base shopping, is different from getting shot at, saluting the flag-draped coffin of a fallen warrior, or running for bunkers when rockets are inbound. I know. I’ve lived it.

The fact he cannot provide a shred of evidence he served in Afghanistan shows he is lying to Ohio voters. If he’s willing to lie about something as simple as serving in Qatar instead of Afghanistan, what else will he lie to Ohio voters about if elected?
