To the editor: Kaptur is not in it for fame or money

How disrespectful the comments of one of the “Rush Limbaugh” want-to-be radio commentators who pontificated in a recent letter about Congressman Marcy Kaptur. We voters of the 9th District have repeatedly supported Marcy because she takes her job seriously, Marcy is not in it for money or fame.

She cares about her district, her constituents, our country, and our voice and freedoms.

She is approachable and open to dialog.

What does this talking head want? Another person that will toe the line that the current head of the executive branch of the government wants them to say.

Marcy is a voice who will stand up to and take exception to attempts to dismantle our government and side with our enemies.

She will stand up for the wrongs that are being perpetrated by the voiceless right wing in congress. Marcy is a voice for us against the obvious abuse of power by the current autocrat in the White House.

Trump forgetting own public record

Trump disparaged the United States Mexico Canada Agreement, asking “Who would ever sign a thing like this?” He implied that he read it one night while in bed.

Apparently, he fell asleep before he got to the end, or he would have seen a familiar signature: his own.

Over the past decade and a half, the public record of his inability to read or comprehend is rife with examples.

Double standard for Zelensky, not Musk

Zelensky gets chastised and ridiculed for his attire and lack of suit? How about a tacky T-shirt, a jacket, and a ball cap? Or is Musk granted special privileges? Not a word said about his “disrespect” for the office.

What hypocrites!

Leave moon alone, we already were first

If the White House really wants to cut government waste, the manned space program should be the first thing to go.

There is no science that can’t be done better and cheaper robotically. If autonomous cars are a good idea, then autonomous spacecraft are even better.

Land on the moon? We did it 56 years ago.

America first? We were first. If things are so bad that we have to cut off humanitarian aid to the world, is going to the moon again really that important? How would it benefit the average American?

If a private citizen, Elon Musk, who has the money, really wants to send his babies to squat on Mars, let him. It’s still a free country, more or less. But, let him spend his own money, not public money, on his hobbies.

Raise revenue, not reduce expenses

The deficit problem cannot be solved by reducing expenses. The real solution is raising revenue. If we can get more tax money coming in from people and corporations who don’t pay their share, it will reduce the deficit.

Wait — doesn’t lower taxes for the rich mean more investment, more opportunity, and wealth trickling down? No. Believing in that scenario is what created the deficit in the first place. (That and putting wars on a credit card.)

Trump’s full-time job is convincing people that by firing park rangers, the deficit will be fixed. And even Trump knows that the real problem is simple — not enough money is coming in. Instead, he’s choosing to destroy the government, and there will still be a huge deficit. More tax money is the solution.

Head is swimming under administration

If it is accurate to say that one should not begin vast projects with half-vast ideas, I am left wondering where we are going as a nation and am left with more questions than answers. For example:

Is it true that during the 1990s Donald Trump was recruited to be a Russian agent?

If not, he certainly is a convincing imitation of one.

I am wondering whether the next time my cancers return, will Medicare be there to help me with my bills for treatment? Will I have to ask Kennedy for permission to get treatment?

I am sure they would prefer me dead so I cannot vote in the next election and stop me from writing letters like this.

There’s only one bully for this world

Donald Trump and his administration’s betrayal of Ukraine, his bullying of President Zelensky, and his obsequious kowtowing to Vladimir Putin is a shameful violation of moral values and America’s true national interests.

Despite first impressions, in this scenario Trump is actually not being the proverbial schoolhouse bully. That role is filled by Putin.

Instead, Trump is far worse.

He’s the classroom teacher, whose role should be to protect the weaker victim, but who instead doubles down in support of the bully. Truly shameful.

It’s government, not a business

The first cabinet meeting of President Trump’s second term early last week was a televised, polite assembly of men and women, who displayed an impressive measure of sycophancy.

Smiling, and politely clapping and giggling like junior high girls at their first cotillion, they put on a show of unity; dissociating themselves from any past opinions they may have held.

What was worse was the amount of airtime afforded to a rich citizen-donor who thinks that there is no difference between the U.S. government and his businesses.

President admires notorious dictators

Inconceivable, unimaginable, terrifying the real prospect that President Trump is a Russian asset. Just connect the dots: Trump’s admiration for all dictators, Putin, Xi, Kim, and the way he ran his business empire, doing what was best for Trump, if that was unethical or illegal that was why he had a small army of lawyers.

Trump and Musk (a South African citizen) are attempting to destroy what amounts to the safety net for tens of millions of Americans while a petrified GOP congress look on unwilling to fulfill the sworn obligation to the American people they took.

Nation will be facing DOGE consequences

I have seen many layoffs during my career, but none of them were as unorganized and haphazard as DOGE’S. Department of Government Effiency has or wants access to all government departments to include confidential personnel and government contracts of common citizens in addition to Elon Musk’s competition.

DOGE has also laid off personnel only to call them back to their original positions.

If President Joe Biden had suggested using un-vetted people, without background checks, to have access to all this information, the Republicans would have been in an uproar and demanding impeachment hearings.

Now, for the most part, they remain quiet and docile.

MAGA wants a smaller government with fewer regulations but are they willing to pay the price in terms of food, health (including the VA/Medicaid), roads, weather, banking, and airline safety in addition to national security?

The Constitution states that congress is responsible for funding departments but neither party has attempted to control governmental bureaucracy.
