BOWLING GREEN — Everyone who follows the Bowling Green State University football program knows Joseph Davidson.

The senior punter from Findlay enters this season as a bona fide All-America candidate after ranking among the top FBS punters last season. His combination of booming punts and rugby-style kicks that seemed to never stop rolling helped the Falcons rank first in the Mid-American Conference and among the top teams nationally in net punting.

But it also underlines a potential area where BG can sneak up on potential opponents, especially in MAC play. Last season the Falcons were middle-of-the-road at best when it came to other facets of special teams, especially kickoff and punt returns.

When it comes to punt returns, the Falcons need to have someone like Ryan Burbrink step up and show the ability to catch every punt and return the short and/or poorly covered kicks. There are some hidden yards available to the Falcons there.

But BG really could use someone to step up and return kickoffs, as last season the Falcons averaged just 17.4 yards per return. Only five FBS teams were worse than the Falcons in that area last season.

Finding someone to step up and produce in that area would uncover a treasure trove of hidden yards for Bowling Green.
