Numbers game: Mike Jinks at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN — Mike Jinks is out as Bowling Green’s football coach, ending a rocky tenure in charge of the Falcons’ football team.

Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini will be the interim coach for the rest of the season.

Here’s a look at Jinks’ tenure by the numbers:

No delay to the inevitable: BG fires Jinks

Bowling Green's 2018 football schedule

15: Times Bowling Green allowed 40 or more points in Jinks’ 31 games in charge. He fired former defensive coordinator Perry Eliano and hired Pelini during the offseason. BG, which played three Power Five teams this year, has allowed 40 or more points in five games.

128: The Falcons’ current rank in points allowed, which is the second-worst mark in the Football Bowl Subdivision. They’re allowing 47.8 points per game.

3: Seasons that Jinks had been in college football coaching before the Falcons hired him in December, 2015. Jinks was a former high school football coach in Texas before Texas Tech hired him to coach their running backs. He spent 2015 as the Red Raiders’ associate head coach.

$437,228: The base salary Jinks made this season. His contract, with runs through the 2020 season, calls for him to make his base salary through the duration of the deal if he is fired without cause. The buyout can diminish if Jinks gains employment elsewhere.

660: Days between victories at Doyt Perry Stadium before Bowling Green beat Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 15. The Falcons did not win a game at home during the 2017 season.
