Hot-shooting BGSU women put end to MAC losing streak

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green women’s basketball team ended a season-long, 10-game losing streak on Wednesday night by picking up a 78-72 win over Buffalo.

It is the first Mid-American Conference victory this season for the Falcons, who led the entire game and were up by as many as 20.

With 1:12 remaining, Buffalo got to within two points, 73-71. The Bulls were still forced to foul, however, and BG (8-14, 1-10 MAC) made five of their six free throws over the final minute to secure the win.

The Falcons got out to a 22-12 lead in the first quarter, led by Cecil’s nine points.

Before halftime, the Falcons built a 20-point advantage, leading Buffalo 32-12 after a free throw from Hempfling.

Over the final six minutes of the first half, however, the Bulls went on a 19-10 run to narrow the gap, but BG still led 42-31 going into halftime.

Lambert had 10 of her 13 points in the third quarter to keep the Falcons firmly ahead in what was a back-and-forth frame. The Falcons narrowly outscored the Bulls 22-20 in the quarter.
