BOWLING GREEN — A little more than a week after transferring from Bowling Green, quarterback Jarret Doege has found a new home.
Doege, who started 17 games for BGSU the past two years, committed to West Virginia on Thursday.
The Mountaineers are entering their first year under coach Neal Brown, who has a connection to the Doege family. He was an assistant at Texas Tech when Jarret’s older brother, Seth, was the Red Raiders’ starting quarterback.
Doege is the second quarterback to transfer to West Virginia this offseason. Austin Kendall, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma, can play immediately and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Because he played as a true freshman, Doege still has a redshirt year available, as well as two years of eligibility.
Doege threw 27 regular-season touchdown passes last year, which led the Mid-American Conference. He went through the duration of spring practice under new Falcons coach Scot Loeffler, but ultimately opted to leave.
The Falcons have two scholarship quarterbacks in Grant Loy and Bryce Veasley, but Loeffler said the program likely will add another during the offseason.
Country roads!! Take me home!! Excited for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to be apart of Mountaineer Nation! #HailWV pic.twitter.com/kLKrtUkGDK
