BGSU football adds three 2020 3-star recruits on Father's Day

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University football bolstered its 2020 recruiting class last weekend, adding three 3-star recruits.

Javonte Kinsey (Sandalwood High School, Jacksonville); Tucker Melton (Central High School, Phenix City, Ala.); and Elijah Eberhardt (Princeton High School, Cincinnati) all tweeted Sunday they had committed to play football at BG.

The Falcons have the No. 2 recruiting class in the Mid-American Conference, according to 247sports.com. BG is just behind Western Michigan, and both schools have 12 commits. Of the Falcons’ 12, seven are three-star recruits.

Eberhardt, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback, played in only three games in the 2018 season after tearing his ACL. Even though he saw only limited action, Eberhardt is ranked the No. 43 recruit in Ohio in the 2020 class, according to the 247sports composite rankings. He also had an offer from Western Michigan.

Scot Loeffler is entering his first season as Bowling Green State University's football coach.

“From a young age, my parents have stressed the importance of loyalty. The same loyalty is shown to me by the football staff at Bowling Green State University,” Eberhardt tweeted in part. “I would like to take this time to express my gratitude to all of the other coaches that took the time to recruit me. At this moment in time I would like to announce that I am 100% committed to BGSU.”

Melton is a 6-2, 220-pound pro-style quarterback and is the No. 43 recruit in Alabama in his class based on the 247sports composite rankings. Melton had 11 offers, including one from Akron.

Last season, Melton completed 61 of 94 passes for 1,092 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions.

“The great game of football has opened up so many doors for me and for my family,” Melton tweeted in part. “Thank you again to everyone who has been part of this journey and [to] all of the coaches that have recruited me this far. With that being said I am committed to Bowling Green State University.”

The 6-4, 205-pound Kinsey, a wide receiver, had 14 offers. Bowling Green was the only MAC school to offer, and he made his second official visit to campus this weekend.

“I would like to thank my family and all of my coaches that helped me get to this point and the coaches that gave me an opportunity,” Kinsey tweeted. “After talking it over with my parents, I have decided to commit to Bowling Green State University.”

In two seasons at St. Francis, Todd Bumphis has 25 catches for 491 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
