BOWLING GREEN — Two goals in the first period and two more in the third period led the No. 17 Bowling Green State University hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Lake Superior State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest Friday at BGSU’s Slater Family Ice Arena.
The Falcons (8-4-0, 5-2-0 WCHA) scored twice, 31 seconds apart from each other, in the first period. Forward Max Johnson put BGSU on the board at the 6:25 mark. His third goal of the season was assisted by Will Cullen and Cameron Wright.
The second score followed at 6:56 into the period, as forward Sam Craggs buried his first of the season into the net. Craggs was assisted by Carson Musser.
Lake Superior State (4-11-0, 2-5-0) out-shot the Falcons 10-9 in the first period, but Falcons goaltender Eric Dop saved all 10 attempts.
Wright added a goal on a Falcons power play, 7:19 into the second period. His team-leading ninth goal of the season was assisted by Tim Theocharidis and Taylor Schneider, and it put BGSU up 3-0.
Connor Ford scored on a penalty shot and Evan Dougherty added a power-play goal in the third, giving the Falcons their shutout victory.
Bowling Green and Lake Superior State meet again at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday at Bowling Green.
