BGSU hockey rallies to hammer Alabama-Huntsville, 9-3

BOWLING GREEN — The 13th-ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team caught fire after the first period and defeated Alabama-Huntsville 9-3 at the Slater Family Ice Arena on Friday.

Bowling Green (11-5-0, 6-3-0 WCHA) trailed 2-0 after the first period and was behind 3-0 at one point in the second period, but the Falcons posted three goals in the second and six goals in the third period to defeat the Chargers (1-13-1, 1-9-1).

UAH opened the scoring in the first period as Adrian Danchenko scored with 13:52 to play. Daneel Lategan scored with 4:50 left to give the Chargers its 2-0 lead.

Alabama-Huntsville’s Tyr Thompson scored with 15:14 left in the second period, and that is where BGSU took over.

Seven different Falcons scored goals from that point forward, and the Falcons as a team scored nine straight.

Alex Barber and Brandon Kruse each scored two goals for BGSU. Will Cullen, Frederic Letourneau, Sam Craggs, Taylor Schneider, and Cameron Wright each scored one goal.

The Falcons play on home ice against UAH at 7 p.m. Saturday.
