Bowling Green hockey edges Alabama-Huntsville in double OT

BOWLING GREEN — Max Johnson’s double-overtime goal lifted the Bowling Green State University hockey team to a 3-2 win over Alabama-Huntsville in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest on Saturday at the Slater Family Ice Arena.

The Falcons (11-5-1, 6-3-1) and UAH (1-13-2, 1-9-2) traded goals in the first two periods, and played to a stalemate in the third period and in overtime. Johnson scored the first goal of the game, and UAH’s Jack Jeffers scored the equalizer in the first. UAH’s Christian Rajic and BGSU’s Connor Ford traded scores in the second.

BGSU hits the road next weekend, as the Falcons travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to begin a series with WCHA counterpart Lake Superior State. Friday’s contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Falcons and Lakers split a two-game series in Bowling Green Nov. 23-24.
