BGSU hockey pares back schedule, but plans to play non-conference games

BOWLING GREEN — Hockey season at Bowling Green will go forward during the 2020-21 school year, but with a different schedule than originally planned.

Bowling Green announced plans to play 28 hockey games plus an exhibition this school year and will be one of just two schools in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association that plans to play non-conference opponents.

The Falcons plan to hold a scrimmage against the USA Hockey Development’s Under-18 team on Nov. 4, then begin the season Nov. 13 in a home game against NCAA Division III Adrian College.

Bowling Green also plans to play non-conference series against Robert Morris, Mercyhurst, Quinnipiac, and Ferris State, the last of which will not count in the WCHA standings.

The Falcons originally were supposed to play St. Lawrence, Western Michigan, Miami, and RIT in the non-conference portion of the schedule before the college hockey season was delayed due to coronavirus.

Bowling Green’s schedule calls for a Jan.1-2 WCHA opener at Ferris State, and a Feb. 27 final game against Alabama-Huntsville.

The WCHA announced plans to begin its conference tournament March 12, with all games taking place on campus sites. The NCAA tournament is slated to begin March 26.
