TROY, N.Y. — The Bowling Green State University hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against host RPI on Friday in the team’s official season opener following last week’s 7-1 exhibition loss at Michigan.
Bowling Green’s Adam Conquest scored 7:40 into the third period to tie the game. Adam Pitters and Gabriel Chicoine assisted.
Nathan Burke gave the Falcons the early lead with a power-play goal at 13:24 of the first period, with Chicoine and Austen Swankler assisting.
Both of RPI’s goals came early in the third period. Jakub Lacka scored at 2:04, and Rory Herrman gave the Engineers a 2-1 lead at 5:48.
Zack Rose had 26 saves for Bowling Green. Linden Marshall had 16 for RPI, with the Engineers claiming a 28-18 edge in shots on goal.
The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday at RPI.
