Bowling Green hockey tops No. 17 Bemidji State in series opener

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Chrystopher Collin scored twice to lead the Bowling Green State University hockey team to a 3-2 win over No. 17 Bemidji State on Friday night at the Sanford Center.

Collin scored once in the second period to tie the game at 1-1, and then again in the third period to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

His first goal was assisted by Sam Craggs, and his second was assisted by Taylor Schneider and Eric Parker.

The Falcons (3-0-2) also got a second-period goal from Coale Norris, assisted by Nathan Burke.

Bemidji State's Eric Martin opened the scoring with a power-play goal with six seconds left in the first period off assists from Brad Johnson and Will Zmolek.

Bemidji State controlled the play in the first period with 16 shots to Bowling Green's five shots. Bowling Green picked up its play in the second period, with each team recording 11 shots in the period.

In the third period, Ethan Somoza of Bemidji State answered Collin's goal with one of his own to cut the Bowling Green lead to 3-2.

Bowling Green goalkeeper Zack Rose stood strong in the net, making a career-high 38 saves as Bemidji State peppered him with 13 shots in the third period as the Falcons held on for the victory.

The teams will play again Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. at the Sanford Center.
