V Week began on Tuesday, better known as “Giving Tuesday,” and runs through Dec. 12.
McKinstry was diagnosed with Stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a rare type of cancer that forms in soft skeletal muscle tissue in 2018. He underwent treatment through June of 2019. He joined BGSU’s program as a preferred walk-on, and earned a full scholarship in August.
"I think it prepared me for life in general," McKinstry said this season. "It showed me that anything can be taken from me at any moment in time, so you just try to be grateful for everything. You just can't take anything for granted and work hard in anything you do."
He caught three passes for 22 yards in 10 games as a true freshman this season. He also played on BGSU’s special teams unit.
