BOWLING GREEN — The lynchpin and backbone of Bowling Green State University’s volleyball team has earned her national due.
Outside hitter Petra Indrova on Wednesday was recognized as an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Indrova racked up accolades in a season that led BGSU to the Mid-American Conference East Division title and an appearance in the MAC tournament finals. She was also named the MAC Player of the Year, All-MAC first team, MAC All-Tournament team, and the AVCA Northeast All-Region team.
"It is a tremendous honor for both Petra and our volleyball program that she was named the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention,” Falcons coach Danijela Tomic said in a news release. “Petra proved with her elite level of play this season that she is among the best in the country, and this latest recognition confirmed it.”
She is the first player in program history to earn All-American honors.
“I am thrilled and proud that Petra made history by being our first All-American because of who she is not just as a volleyball player, but more importantly as a person and a teammate who embodies our team core values and the spirit of BG warriors,” Tomic said.
Indrova paced the 21-9 Falcons with 458 kills, and her 4.20 kills per set clipped at 10th in program history for a single season. She ranked 33rd in the NCAA in kills per set and 34th in total kills.
She also led the team with 35 service aces, and was second on the team in blocks (85) and digs (292).
