BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team will have wait a bit longer to begin Mid-American Conference play.
The university announced on Tuesday that the team’s MAC opener versus Akron originally scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. has been postponed due to coronavirus protocols within Akron’s program.
BGSU said the game might be rescheduled for a future date.
The MAC on Thursday announced updated rescheduling policies with respect to coronavirus issues. If possible, games that cannot be played at their originally scheduled time will be rescheduled for a future date. If a game cannot be played or rescheduled, it will be declared a no contest.
In men’s and women’s basketball, teams must have a minimum of seven scholarship players and one coach available to play a game. If a team does not meet this requirement, elects not to play, and that game cannot be rescheduled, then the game will be considered a no contest. If a team does meet the the threshold of seven scholarship athletes and one coach available, but that team elects not to play, the game will be declared a forfeit.
The Falcons are now set to open MAC play 6 p.m. Saturday at Ball State. BGSU’s next home contest is scheduled for Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. against Miami.
