Game day updates: Mississippi State 45, Bowling Green 14 -- Final

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Here are updates for Saturday’s college football game between Bowling Green and Mississippi State. This story will be updated following each quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Bowling Green scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass from Camden Orth to freshman tight end Harold Fannin Jr. Mississippi State answered quickly, however, as Will Rogers threw his sixth score of the day. The Falcons punted on their next possession. The Bulldogs, who continued to roll with Rogers, did the same, but chewed enough clock on their way to make the final minutes academic.

Bowling Green got the ball to start the second half, but Camden Orth was hammered on the Falcons’ first possession of the third quarter and freshman Sami Sir was forced to punt it away. Will Rogers’s fifth passing touchdown of the afternoon capped a five-play, 65-yard Mississippi State drive in response that extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 38-7. Bowling Green picked up a first down on its next drive on a pitch and catch from Orth to senior wide receiver Odieu Hiliare, but ultimately punted.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity to truly twist the knife on the next drive as Rogers took a deep shot to wide receiver Rara Thomas on third down, but it was dropped. The Falcons drove into Mississippi State territory on their next drive and stood on the Bulldogs’ five-yard line at the end of the third quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

Mississippi State opened the second quarter by pinning Bowling Green on its own three-yard line. The Falcons picked up a first down and benefited on a defensive holding call that negated a potential Camden Orth interception. Junior tight end Andrew Bench hauled in an Orth pass with a delicate, bobbled 31-yard catch. On second-and-five later in the drive, Orth was lit up but found junior wide receiver Tyrone Broden for a 25-yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs earned good field position on the ensuing kickoff and Rogers continued to confound Bowling Green through the air, hitting Caleb Ducking for his third passing touchdown of the afternoon. Orth’s third-down deep shot on the Falcons’ next drive was long, and Bowling Green punted with 4:49 left in the first half. Mississippi State quickly drove to another Rogers passing score, this one to wide receiver Jamire Calvin.

FIRST QUARTER

Bowling Green won the coin toss and opted to defer its choice to the second half. Mississippi State marched down the field to a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Will Rogers to wide receiver Caleb Ducking in the corner of the end zone. With junior quarterback Camden Orth unexpectedly starting in senior Matt McDonald’s stead, the Falcons went three-and-out on their opening possession. The Bulldogs struck again with another score, this one a 32-yard strike from Rogers to running back Simeon Price.

After Orth was unable to move Bowling Green once again, Mississippi State took over and drove into Falcons territory with the help of a fourth-down conversion. Bowling Green pressured Rogers, but the Bulldogs were able to salvage a 52-yard field goal from kicker Ben Raybon. The Falcons punted one more time before the end of the quarter.
