Bowling Green hockey wins season opener 6-4 at Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Six Bowling Green hockey players scored goals as the Falcons earned a 6-4 victory over Northern Michigan in their season opener on Saturday.

Chase Gresock, Max Coyle, Ethan Scardina, Ryan O'Hara, Austen Swankler, and Taylor Schneider were the goal-scorers for Bowling Green.

Schneider had three points to lead the Falcons and Swankler had two points.

The Falcons trailed 4-3 when Michael Colella scored for the Wildcats 2:43 into the third period.

But O'Hara lit the lamp less than a minute later to tie the score at 4 and then Swankler scored an even-strength goal 6:49 into the period for a 5-4 lead. Schneider provided the insurance goal with an empty-net tally with just 30 seconds remaining.

Colella had two goals for Northern Michigan, while Reilly Funk and Artem Shlaine were the other goal-scorers for the Wildcats. 

Bowling Green goaltender Zack Rose stopped 24 of 28 Northern Michigan shots on goal to pick up his first win of the season.

Northern Michigan goalie Charlie Glockner also made 24 saves on the 29 Bowling Green shots that came his way.
