SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas — A strong third quarter helped break open things for the Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team in a 90-61 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Playing at the South Padre Island Convention Centre, Bowling Green outscored Texas A&M-Commerce 28-11 in the third quarter after leading 46-32 at halftime. The Falcons improved to 9-1, with the team’s only loss coming Nov. 17 against nationally ranked Indiana.
Morgan Sharps and Nyla Hampton each scored 17 points for Bowling Green, with Lexi Fleming putting in 15 points. Jocelyn Tate was the Falcons’ leading rebounder, pulling down eight boards to go along with six points, and Tate and Hampton each had six assists.
Thirteen BG players scored. The Falcons went 38 of 72 (52.8 percent) for the game, and they made 6 of 10 3-pointers in the first half.
Laila Lawrence paced Southland Conference member Texas A&M-Commerce (2-8) with 16 points. Dynai Robinson had 12 points, and DesiRay Kernal put in 11 points.
The game was the first of two the Falcons will play in South Padre Island. They face Texas-Rio Grande Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
