The list of players invited to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine was released by the league on Wednesday, and football fans and analysts noticed a glaring omission.
Defensive lineman Karl Brooks, who excelled in five seasons at Bowling Green State University before putting up an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl last weekend, was not included on the list of 319 prospects that were invited to the event from Feb. 28 to March 6 in Indianapolis.
Brooks made his presence known during Senior Bowl practices last week, then recorded a sack and two solo tackles in Saturday’s game as he helped the National team beat American 27-10.
Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Senior Bowl, posted on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon: “Moving forward, NFL should add one ‘snub’ from initial Combine list based on Draft Twitter backlash. This year that guy would overwhelmingly be Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks.”
Brooks, a 6-foot-3, 303-pound standout, was a first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus last season. He was also the highest-graded edge defender in the FBS when he ranked eighth nationally with 10 sacks and ninth with 18 tackles for loss. Brooks was No. 1 in the country in hurries (49) and total pressures (69), according to PFF.
Brooks, likely an NFL draft selection in the first three rounds, finished third on BGSU’s career sacks list with 27½.
Four Mid-American Conference players were invited to the combine, including Ball State cornerback Nic Jones, Central Michigan defensive lineman Thomas Incoom, and Eastern Michigan’s Jose Ramirez (defensive lineman) and Sidy Sow (offensive lineman).
