BOWLING GREEN — Several Bowling Green State University men’s basketball players, including two starters from this past season’s team, have recently entered the transfer portal.
According to verbalcommits.com, Kaden Metheny, Chandler Turner, and Ubongabasi Etim entered the portal. At least five BGSU players, including three of their top five leading scorers from last season, have left since Michael Huger was fired as the Falcons head coach a little more than a week ago.
Metheny, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard and 3-point specialist, averaged 10.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game last season. He led BGSU with 66 made 3-pointers and shot 38.2 percent from beyond the arc overall.
Metheny appeared in 28 games last season, including 27 starts. As a freshman in the 2020-21 campaign, he started all 26 of BGSU’s games and averaged 10.2 points in being named to the Mid-American Conference all-freshman team.
The following year, Metheny played and started in 10 games and averaged 6.2 points before missing the rest of the season with an injury.
Meanwhile, Turner will enter the portal as a graduate transfer. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 29 games (25 starts) last season, and for his four-year BGSU career, Turner averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in 94 games.
Etim, a 6-9 redshirt freshman forward, appeared in 15 games (six starts) for BGSU. He had 10 rebounds in the season finale against Ohio.
The trio join junior forward Rashaun Agee (9.9 points per game) and sophomore guard Jackson Watson as BGSU players in the portal.
