BGSU women's basketball bounces back to defeat host Xavier

CINCINNATI — A week after suffering its first loss of the season to Texas State, Bowling Green State University women’s basketball got back in the win column, defeating winless Xavier 73-64 on the road.

Four Falcons scored in double figures, led by Lexi Fleming’s 21 points and seven rebounds. Amy Velasco and Paige Kohler scored 15 apiece, and Olivia Hill had 12 points.

BGSU (2-1) got off to a slow start, trailing the Musketeers 9-2 in the first quarter before coming back to tie the game at 15 going into the second. Velasco scored eight of her points, including two 3-pointers, in the second quarter to help the Falcons take a 36-33 halftime lead.

Bowling Green never trailed after the break, embarking on a 9-0 run late in the third to open up a double-digit lead. BGSU made 12 of 20 field goals and 6 of 9 3s in the second half.

For Xavier (0-4), it was the Musketeers’ closest game of the season after double-digit losses to Youngstown State, James Madison, and Old Dominion.

BGSU will head to Savannah, Ga., for a pair of games in the Savannah Hoops Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday. The Falcons face Mercer at noon Wednesday before taking on Lehigh at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
