BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bowling Green hockey fell behind in the first period Friday and could not recover, losing 5-2 to suffer a two-game sweep at Bemidji State.
The host Beavers, who defeated the Falcons 3-1 on Thursday, started quickly Friday with three first-period goals. Lleyton Roed and Vince Corcoran each scored within the first seven minutes, and Alexander Lundman tallied later in the period to leave BGSU in a 3-0 hole.
Owen Ozar got the Falcons on the board with 12:35 remaining in the second period, with assists from Brandon Santa Juana and Nick O’Hanisain.
Bemidji (8-10, 7-5 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) responded with goals from Kirklan Irey and Adam Flammang to make it 5-1. Spencer Kersten tallied a consolation strike for Bowling Green with a little less than five minutes remaining in the game.
Cole Moore made 28 saves and allowed four goals for the Falcons. Salvatore Evola also saw time in the net, making seven stops and allowing one goal.
BGSU only managed 18 shots against Bemidji’s Mattias Sholl, who made 16 saves.
Bowling Green (7-13, 5-7) is off next weekend before hosting an exhibition against Windsor (Ont.) on Dec. 30. The regular season resumes Jan. 5 at Ohio State.
