MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — Bowling Green State University hockey ran its unbeaten streak to six games with a 3-1 victory at St. Thomas on Saturday, clinching the win in a two-game weekend series that began with a shootout win for the Falcons on Friday.
Since a Jan. 20 loss to Minnesota State, BGSU (13-16-1, 11-8-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) has won five games outright in addition to Friday’s shootout win.
Brett Pfoh got the Falcons on the board in the first minute of the game Saturday, scoring a goal 54 seconds in that gave BG a lead it never relinquished.
Seth Fyten made it 2-0 in the second period, and Bowling Green took its shutout bid into the third period despite being outshot 19-14.
St. Thomas (13-15-2, 11-8-1) got a power-play goal from Matthew Gleason early in the third, and threatened with another power play in the final minutes of the game. But Ben Doran scored shorthanded on an empty net for the Falcons with 25 seconds left to put away the win.
Cole Moore made 30 saves on 31 attempts for BGSU in the victory.
Bowling Green returns home to the Slater Family Ice Arena next weekend to host Michigan Tech at 7:37 p.m. on Friday and 7:07 p.m. on Saturday.
