BGSU men’s basketball falls late at Ohio, 66-59

ATHENS, Ohio — Bowling Green State University men’s basketball fought hard in the battle between two teams in the top half of the Mid-American Conference, but ultimately it was host Ohio University coming out on top 66-59 Friday night at the Convocation Center.

A 9-2 run for the Bobcats aided them to victory down the stretch. BGSU (17-12, 8-8 MAC) was limited to a Marcus Hill layup over the final three minutes of the contest.

After the Falcons tied it up at 57 on a pair of Rashaun Agee free throws with 2:59 to go, Ohio’s Jaylin Hunter sank a big 3-pointer 15 seconds later. AJ Clayton buried another triple for good measure as Ohio (17-12, 11-5) went up 63-57 with only 30 seconds to go.

The MAC rivals matched runs to end the first half.

A 12-2 spurt, ignited by five points from Agee and four by Hill, helped the Falcons to a 28-21 lead with just over two minutes to go until halftime. But the Bobcats fired back with a 7-0 run of their own, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Shereef Mitchell that knotted the game up at 28 at the break.

Agee led the Falcons with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Trey Thomas added 15 points and Hill 12 points.

For Ohio, Miles Brown finished with 16 points, adding four rebounds and four assists as well. Mitchell and Aidan Hadaway scored 13 points each, while Clayton put in 11 points.
