BGSU hockey builds early lead, puts away Simon Fraser 4-1

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University hockey team got all the scoring it needed in the opening period en route to a 4-1 win over Simon Fraser University (B.C.) on Sunday at Slater Family Ice Arena.

In fact, all five goals in the game took place during the first 20 minutes of action.

The Falcons (3-0) struck first on the power play, Brody Waters scoring his third goal of the season 4:13 in. BGSU made it 2-0 a little over four minutes later when Brayden Krieger found the back of the net.

At the 10:58 mark, Adam Zinka scored to put BGSU on top 3-0. The Falcons then added another even-strength goal thanks to Maxwell Martin, for a 4-0 advantage at 13:13 of the period.

Martin also added an assist for the Falcons, while Dalton Norris chipped in a pair of assists. Others credited with assists for the Falcons were Gustav Stjernberg and Brett Pfoh.

Simon Fraser got on the board when Zac Maxwell scored with 1:32 left in the first.

The Falcons held a massive advantage in shots on goal, outshooting the Red Leafs 45-18. In net, Bowling Green goalie Cole Moore stopped 15 shots.

BGSU heads to Kalamazoo for a matchup with Western Michigan (2-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
