CLEVELAND — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team fell to 1-2 with a 75-68 loss Tuesday at Cleveland State.
The host Vikings (2-1) outscored the Falcons 46-28 in the middle two quarters to wipe out an early 25-10 BGSU edge and take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter. Cleveland State then outscored Bowling Green 19-15 over the final 10 minutes, with the Falcons coming no closer than three points.
The Falcons enjoyed some strong perimeter shooting in the first quarter, making 5 of 6 from 3-point range. Bowling Green’s shooting cooled off from there, with the Falcons going 4 of 17 from beyond the arc in the final three quarters.
Amy Velasco led Bowling Green with 28 points. Paige Kohler scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists, and Taya Ellis had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Sara Guerreiro paced Cleveland State with 19 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Jordana Reisma had 17 points and eight rebounds, Mickayla Perdue had 16 points, and Destiny Leo had 12 points.
Bowling Green had a 44-37 rebounding edge, but Cleveland State enjoyed a 36-26 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-7 edge on fast-break points.
The Falcons host St. Bonaventure at noon Saturday at the Stroh Center.
