Bowling Green hockey shut out by Michigan Tech

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University hockey fired off more shots but could not connect as it fell 3-0 to Michigan Tech in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest Friday at Slater Family Ice Arena.

The Falcons had 57 shots in the game to Michigan Tech’s 44 and only trailed 30-28 in shots on goal. The Huskies, however, were able to cash in on their opportunities more than the hosts.

Michigan Tech capitalized on a pair of power plays to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Logan Morrell notched his second goal of the season 3:37 into the game, putting the Huskies on top. They then added Matthew Campbell’s goal on the man advantage at 17:29 of the period for the two-goal edge.

The Huskies added a second-period even-strength goal and then held of the Falcons from there. Viktor Hurtig found the back of the net with just 2:29 left in the second to complete the shutout.

BGSU drops to 5-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCHA after the defeat. The two will meet again at 7:07 p.m. Saturday at Slater Family Ice Arena.
